Plant Book

Plant Book, is an illustrated book compiled by artist Peter Coffin, containing reproductions of contemporary photography, performance art, drawing, painting and sculpture related to the life of plants and accompanied by three volumes of music composed by contemporary musicians for plants. The book features reproductions of artwork of over 150 visual artists, including John Baldessari, Uta Barth, Mark Dion, Andy Warhol, Tacita Dean, and Jeff Koons. The artworks in The Plant Book offer unique perspectives on plants that extend beyond the typical representation of nature’s beauty. The original "Music for Plants" made specifically for this project include tracks by Malcolm Mooney, Sonic Youth, Yoko Ono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Bernie Worrell with Artos Lindsay, Philip Glass, Sonic Boom and Delia Derbyshire, Laurie Anderson, Charlemagne Palestine, Ikue Mori and many more. Echoing the 1960’s trend of scientists and lay people exploring the possibility of plant consciousness and that endeavor through music, Plant Book is a unique offering that encourages readers to see the live’s of plants from the perspective of the world’s leading artists and to listen, as plants might, to “music for plants” by internationally renowned musicians.
